6 Sensual Things about STORM’S HEART by Thea Harrison

(May Contain Spoilers)

1. Supernatural

The Elder Races series as a whole caught my attention due to all the supernatural beings all existing alongside humans. “Storm’s Heart” was fun due to it featuring Tiago, who is Wyr, specifically a thunderbird, and Niniane, who is a Dark Fae. We got to see some Dark Fae politics, culture, and how their demesne fits in with the world at large.

2. Niniane

Niniane is a cute, petite faerie that is beloved by most people who come across her. Filled with lots of spunk and sass, she is a girl after my own heart with her love of make-up, pretty clothes, accessories, and comfort while tolerating minimal bullshit and dancing to the beat of her own drum. She is a fun character and I’m a huge fan.

3. Hottness

Thea Harrison knows how to write romance and “Storm’s Heart” features scenes that are dripping with sexual tension. Once Tiago and Niniane give into their desires, the chemistry is off the charts and provide us with some seriously hot sex scenes!

4. Banter

One of my favorite dynamics between Tiago and Niniane was their banter. The constant bickering and shit talking had me laughing out loud and provided some comic relief to serious and sad situations. Niniane’s sassiness is absolutely hilarious and Tiago usually deserves a tongue lashing!

5. Overall

“Storm’s Heart” was an enjoyable read overall. The politics and the mystery of the attempts on Niniane’s life kept me intrigued while wanting Tiago and Niniane to find their happily ever after really kept me engaged. Happily their much deserved ending took place and Niniane has taken her throne with Tiago watching over her.

6. Serpent’s Kiss

I am totally curious and intrigued by Carling as she appears to be an utter bitch vampire queen and thankfully Thea Harrison’s Elder Races continues in Book 3, “Serpent’s Kiss” which has Carling featured as a main character.

7 Dreamy Things about DRAGON BOUND by Thea Harrison

(May Contain Spoilers)

1. The World

The Elder Races series includes a lot of supernatural elements. There are Light Fae, Dark Fae, Wyrkind that are beings that can shapeshift into specific animals both mythical and non-mythical, Elves, harpies, and witches. Mostly the world is similar to our own with added magical pocket realms and of course those supernatural beings openly living amongst the humans. Very interested to see the different cultures, strengths, weaknesses, politics, and customs of the various supernatural groups.

2. Humor

Love a book with humor and Harrison definitely delivered. Some of my favorite moments were the banter between Dragos and Pia, Pia questioning her sanity, Dragos’s attempts at being polite instead of barking orders, and Pia’s overall disrespectful, snarky attitude. Great use of humor throughout the book.

3. Characters

The main characters had personalities and quirks that made sense with their backstories as well as their Wryforms and were overall likeable characters. And most of the side characters introduced in “Dragon Bound” were interesting and I’m looking forward to reading more of the series to get to know them better.

4. Racy

“Dragon Bound” really heated up throughout the book with erotic scenes between Dragos and Pia as they gave into their desire for each other.

5. Dragons

As dragons are probably my favorite mythical animal, I originally picked up this book because it was a romance that involved dragons. Dragons are just awesome! I loved that Harrison included the lore of dragons having a hoard and the ridiculousness of Dragos getting upset that Pia took a penny from him but makes total sense for his arrogant, territorial, “it’s mine!” dragon attitude. Dragos was an overall perfect embodiment of a dragon/man hybrid. And I couldn’t even contain my excitement for the surprise beautiful, adorable baby dragon who was so brave.

6. Unicorns

Probably my second favorite mythical animal, unicorns were also featured in “Dragon Bound” and it was so magical, especially since it was unexpected and the first time I’ve come across a story featuring a being who can shift into a unicorn. As with Dragos, Harrison did an amazing job of making Pia’s personality fit for her Wryform, being a vegetarian, opposed to violence and prone to running.

7. Storm’s Heart

The Elder Races series continues in Book 2, Thea Harrison’s “Storm’s Heart.”

7 Sassy Things about MIDNIGHT’S SEDUCTION by Donna Grant

(May Contain Spoilers)

1. Camdyn MacKenna

While all the Warriors have pasts filled with loss, trauma, grief and regret, Camdyn’s story was quite heart wrenching. He was married once and watched his wife not just grow old and die but become bitter and unhappy with their marriage because he was immortal.

2. Kristin

Kristin was a side character that was introduced in “Midnight’s Lover” and secretly planted at the MacLeod castle by Declan. Happily, the Druids and Warriors have figured this out and while it is sad that she died, good riddance, who knows what kind of damage she could have done.

3. Laria

“Midnight’s Seduction” was full of “finally” moments, read on to come across more. So many things happened in this novel that readers have been waiting for. One of those being Laria. Not only were the Warriors and Druids able to find Laria but they also awakened her. Time to kick some Deirdre ass!

4. Malcolm

Finally, finally Malcolm has redeemed himself! While never truly bad, Malcolm has made some poor choices and has been following Deirdre, becoming one of her henchmen. Regardless, when it counted he made the right choice and turned the tide to ensure Deirdre’s demise.

5. Deidre’s End

Deirdre has finally met her end at the hands of the Warriors, Druids, and her sister Laria. While the death of Deirdre cost Laria’s life, it was absolutely necessary and a long time coming. Victory dance!

6. New Beginnings

With a happy ending of Saffron and Camdyn being together, their union was made so much more magical with finding out that Saffron is carrying his child.

7. Midnight’s Warrior

Donna Grant’s Dark World series continues in Book 4 of the Dark Warriors series, “Midnight’s Warrior.”

5 Dashing Things about DARK HEAT by Donna Grant

(May Contain Spoilers)

1. Short Stories

While short stories are not my favorite as you do not get to know individual characters as well, it is always nice when short stories are collected in one book. With “Dark Heat,” three short stories are included: Dark Craving Dark World 8.1/Dark Kings 0.1; Night’s Awakening Dark World 8.2/Dark Kings 0.2; and Dawn’s Desire Dark World 8.2/Dark Kings 0.3. There is also a bonus story, Passion’s Claim included.

2. Dragons

Dragons are AWESOME! I’m so happy that Grant included dragon-shifters/dragon warriors in the Dark World series. These warriors are amazing, they can shapeshift into dragons, their original forms, and they are also responsible for protecting and caring for the dragons. Breaks my heart that they had to send the dragons to another plane of existence due to dragons being hunted by humans. Humans ruin everything!

3. Erotic

Each story heats up with erotic scenes between the featuring couples as they fall in love and can no longer deny the passion between them.

4. Characters

As always, Donna Grant writes enjoyable and likable characters. Her men are usually gentlemen who are tender, strong, and fiercely loyal to each other and their women. And most importantly, Grant doesn’t write damsels in distress but rather strong, independent women who are equals to their men.

5. Midnight’s Seduction

Donna Grants Dark World series continues in “Midnight’s Seduction,” the Dark Warriors Book 3.

Book Review: 7 Liked Things about MIDNIGHT’S LOVER by Donna Grant

“Midnight’s Lover”

Dark World #8; Dark Warriors #2

by Donna Grant

Nikki’s Rating: 7 out of 10

Summary: Thrown four centuries into the future, Ian is in bad shape. Torn apart by the death of his twin brother, Ian is now in a desperate battle against the demon god he and his brother shared. Worst of all, if he cannot control his god, he may end up hurting and possibly killing Danielle, the beautiful druid that has captured his heart.

7 Liked Things about MIDNIGHT’S LOVER by Donna Grant

(May Contain Spoilers)

1. Twins

While it was absolutely tragic that Duncan died, I think Grant really captured the beauty of the special connection many twins can share with each other. Made total sense that they equally shared one god and could feel each other’s pain.

2. The Villains

Ugh, Deirdre and Declan. These two are just so vile, greedy, and delusional. They truly deserve each other and I’m hoping that one of them will take out the other in their grab for power.

3. Malcolm

Malcolm continues to struggle with his orders from Deirdre and I’m hoping that it will be enough for him to walk away from her soon and join up with the MacLeods et al. Always intriguing to have those characters that are more fluid in their morals and alliances because you are never really sure what they are going to do in the end.

4. Sizzling

A true romance, “Midnight’s Lover” features sizzling erotic scenes between Ian and Danielle.

5. Pacing

As always, Grant gives a good story with some twists and turns. As a whole, she writes well with likeable characters, enjoyable banter, a vivid imagination, and great pacing, keeping the story going and readers interested.

6. Happy Ending

Overall the ending was pretty positive and I’m grateful for that as things could have gone totally south. Ian and Dani survived and stay together, the infiltrator was discovered and destroyed, but most importantly, Duncan has moved on and found peace.

7. Dark Heat

The Dark World series continues in Donna Grant’s “Dark Heat,” a collection of short stories that begins her Dark Kings series.

Book Review: 7 Memorable Things about MIDNIGHT’S MASTER by Donna Grant

“Midnight’s Master”

Dark World #7; Dark Warriors #1

by Donna Grant

Nikki’s Rating: 7 out of 10

Summary: Attempting to trackdown Deirdre, the all-powerful evil magic-wielding drough, Logan is hurdled through time. As he tries to navigate the new times, he meets the beautiful Gwynn, who is much more than she seems. As they realize that she may be the key to the next artifact needed to stop Deirdre, another powerful drough comes into play. Now against two powerful druids, Logan must protect Gwynn, the woman who may save them all and win his heart.

7 Memorable Things about MIDNIGHT’S MASTER by Donna Grant

(May Contain Spoilers)

1. Declan

Having one all-powerful evil druid was enough but things just got very interesting as Grant introduces Declan, a drough so powerful that he has been able to capture and hold Deirdre. Hoping that perhaps they will end up fighting and killing each other.

2. Time-travel

A nice twist to the plot, the Dark World series has jumped forward to our time period. Very cool to see how the characters change and adapt to the new times.

3. Gwynn Austin

Very independent, Gwynn is a druid who can hear the wind and shows immense courage, daring, and resourcefulness in her journey to find the artifact.

4. Logan Hamilton

Logan has been one of my favorite Warriors and it was enjoyable seeing him fall in love and finally lift the burden of his shameful secret. Totally cool that he can control water!

5. Heat

As always, Grant delivers a true romance novel as things heat up between Logan and Gwynn.

6. Writing

Grant continues her fantastic writing style in “Midnight’s Master.” The novel moves forward at a good pace and offers enough description to create the scene without boring readers with too many details.

7. Midnight’s Lover

The Dark World series continues in the Dark Warriors book 2, “Midnight’s Lover.”

Book Review: 7 Delicious Things about DARKEST HIGHLANDER by Donna Grant

“Darkest Highlander”

Dark World #6; Dark Sword #6

by Donna Grant

Nikki’s Rating: 7 out of 10

Summary: After saving Sonya’s life, Broc and Sonya finally begin to really look at what they mean to each other. But just as they begin to realize and explore the love building between them, Broc is captured by the powerful druid Deirdre. Desperate to save the man who has watched over her all her life, Sonya rushes to rescue Broc from Deirdre’s clutches before its too late.

7 Delicious Things about DARKEST HIGHLANDER by Donna Grant

(May Contain Spoilers)

1. The Couple

Broc and Sonya have been featured in the Dark World series for a few books now and the subtle dance of the chemistry between these two has created some serious tension. Them getting together has been much anticipated and Donna Grant finally delivers in “Darkest Highlander.”

2. Sonya

Sonya is strong in so many ways. She is a powerful red-headed druid of healing, she communes with trees, she fights for the man she loves, and stands up for what she believes in. A truly inspirational heroine.

3. Druid Powers

The most compelling thing about Donna Grant’s Dark World series is the lore and all the tiny details included. One such tiny detail is that the druids have some very unique powers: Sonya can communicate with trees, Brenna is able to see through the eyes of animals, Marcail can take the pain of others, etc.

4. Steamy

Things heat up betwen Sonya and Broc and as always, Donna Grant provides some steamy, erotic scenes.

5. Malcolm

It was heartbreaking for Malcolm to leave MacLeod castle but his story just got so much more interesting now that he has been changed into a Warrior. Very curious to see how his character arch will play out in the battle against Deirdre.

6. Phelan

Another character that is most intriguing, Phelan makes another brief appearance in “Darkest Highlander.” Deeply traumatized and abused for most of his life, Phelan is a wild card who has not joined the MacLeods but who has an insatiable hatred for Deirdre. It will be interesting to see how his story unfolds.

7. Midnight’s Master

Thankfully Donna Grant’s wonderful Dark World series continues in “Midnight’s Master” book 1 of the Dark Warriors series.

Book Review: 7 Suave Things about SHADOW HIGHLANDER by Donna Grant

“Shadow Highlander”

Dark World #5; Dark Sword #5

by Donna Grant

Nikki’s Rating: 7 out of 10

Summary: In a daring attempt to save as many druids as he can, Galen invites a clan of druids to MacLeod castle. As they travel across Scotland, Galen finds out that not all is as it seems. The druids are hiding a terrible secret, a secret that involves Reaghan, the druid that has caught his eye. With discord and strife beginning to tear at the alliance between druids and the Warriors of MacLeod castle, Galen must do all he can to protect Reaghan or risk losing her forever.

7 Suave Things about SHADOW HIGHLANDER by Donna Grant

(May Contain Spoilers)

1. The Lore

Donna Grant has a truly creative imagination and even with many characters, no two Warriors have the same power/ability. “Shadow Highlander” focuses on Galen who has the ability to read minds when touching another and really shows what a burden this power is.

2. Reaghan

A very powerful druid who is extremely courageous and tries to protect her people at any cost. She is fierce and yet kind and gentle, a good fit for Galen.

3. Galen

Cursed and blessed with telepathic abilities, Galen struggles throughout “Shadow Highlander” as his power take their toll whenever he touches another. It is a lonely burden and one that truly disturbs him when he comes into contact with an evil-being. Happily, Galen learns to control his power and it is no longer his dirty secret.

4. The Plot

Just when you thought things were coming to an end for Deirdre… The crazy bitch is too powerful for a simple death by killing the body, oh no, now we got to find some artifacts, locate her sister, then wake said sister up. So complicated but so intriguing!

5. Racy

Things get hot and racy between Galen and Reaghan in “Shadow Highlander.”

6. Happy Ending

“Shadow Highlander” made me so nervous towards the end! I was really afraid that Galen would lose Reaghan and/or he wouldn’t be able to touch her without reading her mind. Thankfully we can all breathe a sigh of relief as things worked out in the end.

7. Darkest Highlander

As we now know that Deirdre’s body and spirit must be destroyed to end her, the Dark World series continues in “Darkest Highlander.”

As always, thank you for reading. I would love to hear from you so feel free to contact me or comment below. If you would like to support this blog and/or my paintings please become my patron.

Book Review: 7 Ultimate Things about UNTAMED HIGHLANDER by Donna Grant

“Untamed Highlander”

Dark World #4; Dark Swords #4

by Donna Grant

Nikki’s Rating: 7 out of 10

Summary: Sworn to kill all droughs, evil black magic using druids, Hayden Campbell saves Isla, not knowing what she is. Forced to become drough in order to save her sister and young niece, Isla tries to prove that she is not evil incarnate but Hayden is having none of it. Wanting vengeance for his kinsmen who died by Druid magic, Hayden seeks out Isla to kill her but finds his very heart ensnared by the beguiling magical woman.

7 Ultimate Things about UNTAMED HIGHLANDER by Donna Grant

(May Contain Spoilers)

1. The Druids

One of the many charms of the Dark World series as a whole is the lore. Donna Grant includes the unique terms of mie for the good, nature-based druids and drough for the evil, dark-magic wielding druids. These groups worked together in the past to conquer a mutual enemy.

2. Isla

More than she seems, Isla is a very powerful drough that is not in fact evil. Never fully committing herself to the devil, Isla was coerced into becoming drough by Deirdre. Tormented by the deeds she did for Deirdre in order to save her niece and sister, Isla is a compelling character who battles with deep self-hatred and welcomes death.

3. Hayden Campbell

Another character dealing with lots of hatred, Hayden is a very angry man. Regardless, he is eventually able to see Isla as a person, not just as a member, and embraces their love.

4. Sweltering

With all the hate, rage, and anger going on between them, it gets incredibly hot between Isla and Hayden in “Untamed Highlander.”

5. The Warriors

All the Warriors throughout the Dark World series have different looks, like the color of their skin and eyes but some also have horns of varying shapes and sizes! Then there is Broc who has wings. Diversity is always appreciated!

6. Pacing

As with all the Dark World novels thus far, pacing and writing were great, keeping me interested and making it hard to put down the book!

7. Shadow Highlander

As the war continues with Deirdre, Donna Grant’s Dark World and Dark Swords series continues in “Shadow Highlander.”
