10 Wonderful Things about Brene Brown’s The Gifts of Imperfection

(MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS)

1. Brene Brown is Awesome!

Not even joking about this, I wish Brene Brown was one of my best friends! Brene seems to be just a wonderful, kind, honest, funny, intelligent, and strong woman. If you haven’t seen any of her TEDTalks, I highly recommend watching one.

2. Wholehearted Introduction

“Wholehearted living is about engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness. It means cultivation the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough. It’s going to bed at night thinking, Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.

Brene’s introduction just pulls me right in! Worthiness is a huge focus of The Gifts of Imperfection and I think we can all work on our feelings of worthiness. Be prepared to really look at yourself and what you tell yourself every day. Expect to learn ways to live a wholehearted life!

3. Stories from the Heart

All the stories that Brene Brown shares throughout The Gifts of Imperfection are beautiful. They are all so relatable and meaningful. Love hearing others’ stories!

4. Short and Sweet

While I usually don’t enjoy books being short because if I like them, I want them to continue forever. However, when it comes to self-help books, they need an ending so you can go out and apply their wisdom to your life. The Gifts of Imperfection is only 130 pages but it is full of great insight and we all have to thank Brene Brown for being concise so that we don’t get information overload.

5. Brene Brown is Brilliant!

Brene Brown is an expert in her field. This is not simply a journalist reporting summaries of studies done by others. Brene Brown is a researcher herself and has spent years studying many of the subjects presented in this book. This expertise is evident throughout.

6. Other sources

I appreciate any author, reporter, researcher, scientist, etc. who reference other sources to help back up the facts they are presenting. Provides more credibility to their statements.

7. Simple and Straightforward

Love that while dealing with very complicated, in-depth, and concepts, Brene keeps the language simple, not using terms that perhaps only her colleagues would be familiar with. This simplicity and Brene’s directness creates a book with principles that are easy to comprehend and to apply.

8. Organization

Appreciate that Brene takes time to define and go into some concepts before jumping into the Guideposts of living a Wholehearted life.

9. Content is Key

Again, this book is amazing! Learn to appreciate your imperfections in a whole new light. Learn 10 Guideposts that include cultivating laughter, creativity, and play. Cultivating these different elements will help you achieve a happier and more satisfying life. Totally worth the read.

10. Brene Brown is a Superhero!

Seriously true. Researcher, mother, PhD, LMSW, writer, professor, wife… aka Superhero. Continue being a badass Brene, you are inspiring!
