The Top 7 Rad Things about Tahereh Mafi’s “Restore Me”
(May Contain Spoilers)
1. The Series Continues
I was so excited when I heard about this book. Originally the Shatter Me series was only a trilogy, obviously this has changed and I’m loving it!
If you didn’t know, I really have a thing for Byronic Heroes so yes, I heart Warner and really enjoy learning more about him and his life. Thank you Mafi for making Warner so wonderful!
Alright, last time I came across Adam in the Shatter Me series I wanted to punch him. While I don’t really like him, I am glad that Mafi did redeem him a little bit in this book. I did have a problem with his overall character development because he was great at first and then morphed into total dick-face as the series continued so I’m glad to see him in a more positive light again.
4. Shit Parents
No having shit parents is not awesome. However, I appreciate that Mafi sheds light on one of the most overlooked dilemma’s ever: the child loves the parent, regardless. Both Adam and Warner grieve their father even though he was an asshole and they hated him. This is real though. In most cases, regardless of how awful they may be, children love their parents. And let us not forget that love and hate are not opposites but rather can go hand in hand.
For a child who grew up devouring comics and begging the universe for Stan Lee to be my grandfather (I’m adopted), I really enjoy anything involving people with extraordinary powers. Doesn’t matter if the book explains it as a new race of humans, aka mutants, aliens, experiments or simply magic. I want powers damn it! And well since that is not going to happen anytime soon, I’m going to live vicariously through my book characters. “Restore Me” fits my needs with superpowers.
6. More Powers
Speaking of powers, I am ecstatic that Mafi has introduced new characters with new powers. Because more is better. Think X-men.
7. The Family
Ah, the twist! Juliette has a sister. She may have living parents. And her whole life could be part of an experiment!!! Now I just want to read more… when is the next book coming out?!
